Graveyard Rats
Corrupted creatures known as SKULLs are killing humans for their souls.
Beings known as Grim Reapers that were once human, now have to power to transfer souls from graveyards to the 'other side', but they can't do it alone. Carved from their own bones a skeleton key is made and chosen by a Soul Binder.
Soul Binders and Fighters are utilized by the various goverments around the world, to subdue SKuLLs to remove the souls within them. It is extremeley dangerous and casualties are always high.
Gravediggers must maintain graveyards and will constantly replenish the soil they spread on the outskirts of civilization so it doesn't SPOIL. Graveyard Soil repels SKULLS, but it also attracts them.
The more souls (approx 1000) a Grim Reaper transfers to the otherside the more human they become.
Powerful families 'Sponser' Soul Binders and their Grim Reapers, because the offspring of a former Grim Reaper have great power.
Should a their Soul Binder die, the process starts over and a new key must be formed. If they run out of bones from their corpse they themselves will die...again. or worse, become a SKULL.
Siblings Thorne and Clover Tailstorm are the first GODs (Gifted Over Death) in almost 50years.
Thorne, the Fighting Savant was not gifted with Soul Binding abilites like his younger sister Clover, who can bind almost 20 souls at a time (the average is 3).
Their story starts with their mother Amitola, who as a new resurrected Human is married to Delsin Tailstorm, but she finds it hard to adjust in this "new world" when her family...her people have been gone for almost 300years. When she died SKULLs did not exist...
Thorne and Clover could live the life of celebrity and luxury, but they'd rather fight SKULLS and turn down the various proposals and sponsorships.
this project was my first BIG attempt at worldbuilding and comic developing from 2009-2012. i've revisted a couple times over the years updating character designs and adding ideas to my notes
a mixture of influences from Fullmetal Alchemist, Dorohedoro, Soul Eater and Bleach are very obvious when i describe the plot.
This story is a little too complicated and i don't feel like i'm really equipped/educated to tell it.
Maybe one day i'll revisit it.
